On the first day we left the scout shack at about 4:20 p.m. When we got to Sun Up Bay we unloaded and got the canoes into the water. When we started off the water was calm, but about 20 minutes into our trip the water got a little choppier. When we got to Mowry Park it was dark and my tent partners and I had a little trouble setting up our 6 person tent.
In the morning Mr. Grimm left in his motorboat to go pick up Mr.Whitt. When they got back and had all of Mr. Whitt’s stuff out of the boat, Mr. Grimm took off to go pick up Eric and an exchange student from Germany. At breakfast Daniel’s stove lit up in flames because he had pumped it too much, and the same thing happened at lunch. Before lunch a scout tried to fish while some other scouts goofed off. Somebody found a big bug and some boy’s did some dock surfing. We also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of some of the tents. Then we also worked on our fire building with wet wood. Some of the boys succeeded and some of them didn’t succeed. It’s a lot more difficult with wet wood.
After we ate lunch about 6 boys went canoeing. Also, Scott went with Mr. Clemans to look for some animal tracks to complete second class. I found a chipmunk. Some other boys found a very big frog/toad. At camp 2 boys were making a rather small fire. Two boys caught a dead fish. When they cleaned it I did not see what they did with it.
Then we went to go get apples for our apple crisp from the apple trees that are growing there. At the very first tree that we saw, Scott stepped in a hornets’ nest and got stung. After that we had to be careful around that tree. We went to different trees before we came back to that tree. When we got back to camp we all helped peal them and chop them up.
Once we were done with dinner we played 1 round of capture the flag. Then we went and ate our apple crisp (it was delicious). Then we all went back to play some more of capture the flag. Then we all went to bed. Mr. Whitt said a little prayer in hopes that it would quit raining so that we would get across the lake and not be soaked.
The next morning; we ate a quick breakfast, packed up, and headed back across the lake without any rain. When we got across the lake it started to rain again and to me, the rain felt good. Everybody arrived safely and it was a very successful campout.
