Mirror Lake November 7, 2010
Article submitted by Devin Clarke
On the first day we left the scout shack at about 4:00pm to drive to Mirror Lake. When we got there the adult leader training was going on at the time. Then a little bit after we got there we set up the tents and moved our stuff into our tents. We learned that the Kybo was up in the woods, some boys had trouble finding it
Then, well after the sun had gone down, Chris Peterson (or Abe) showed up to say hello. Then after Abe left, some boys played tackle football. Once all the tents were all set up, all the boys that didn’t eat on the way up to camp, ate their dinners.
A hunter passed through with a big buck on his 4 wheeler he had shot and let us see it. He had shot it up on the mountain near our camp.
The next day we got up and ate breakfast. After that we all had to straightened out our tents and fold the tarps that we brought in so that if it rained that day our stuff wouldn’t get wet.
We all got together and the leaders told us to work on advancement: lashing, first aid, totin’ chip, splicing and other options that the boys needed. We also had a nature hike to identify trees and plants. We saw a Cedar, a Birch, a Grand Fir, a Western White Pine, a Hemlock, a Tamarack, and a Lodge Pole Pine. We also saw an Oregon grape. Then it was lunch time. After lunch we had free time. Some boys built fires, some built forts with lashing, and Mr. Baker built a commando rope/belt and taught a boy how to make one. After that we all gathered together to practice our skits for our campfire program.
At dinner we started our annual cooking competition. The Wolverines made fajita burritos, the Flaming Arrows made tortellini, the Pythons made pepperoni, baloney, pizza with chilly, the Chiefs made chicken and rice, and the Sharks made inside out enchiladas. The Sharks won the cooking competition!!!!!
Some of the leaders from the adult leader training came over to check out our awesome troop 201 campsite and wished that their troop was like ours.
After dinner it was time for the campfire ceremony. The fire at ceremony was huge and it was very, very hot!!!!Bailey was the Mc for the campfire ceremony. Josh W. was leading the songs that we sang. It turned out pretty good. At the end of the campfire we all told jokes and stories around the fire.
Everyone kept on asking Mr. Grimm to tell a scary story so finally he did and most of the scouts were really freaked out. When most boys went to bed a police car and a fire engine went by and freaked them out even more. Then it started to rain.
It rained the whole time we packed up and everyone was wet!!! We ate a quick breakfast, packed up, and did a police line to pick up trash.
Mr. Whitt had a little service with all the scouts and we said a prayer. After the service was done we packed up and left. When we got to the scout shack, we had to hang up all the tents inside of the scout shack. Once all the work was done we all went home safely.
