Mirror Lake Campout
November 3-5
Sumitted by Seth F. for Alex A.
Wow! What a campout! On Friday, after we got to Mirror Lake, we started to set up camp. It took us later than usual to get all of the tents set up in time, but we got it done. Luckily, it didn't take us as long to set up the kitchen and we ate dinner soon after. By that time, we had a roaring fire going, and most of us sat by it until we were too tired to hold our eyes open.
The next morning, almost immediatly after we had breakfast, we went on a nature hike on a trail made by Troop 111 as an Eagle Project. If it weren't for the trail, we could have easily gotten lost. While on the hike, we reached our destiation: a deserted Eagle Ceremony fire pit. Once we got back to camp, the boys who had brought kindling and firewood put it into the fire. After a warm 30 minutes next to the fire, everyone started to make lunch. Some of the Scouts went over to a neighboring camp and (with permission) climed a huge tree. Scott, in the Pythons patrol reached about 3/4 of the way up! Mr. Whitt, the Scoutmaster, gave a very informative talk about how to clean and dewax an iron pan. After playing a few games such as Capture the Flag, the patrols broke into groups and started cooking dinner. Mr. Whitt anounced that there was to be a cooking contest in which the winning patrol got a pizza party. With lots of appetizing dishes, it must have been hard to decide who won. In the end, the Sharks patrol won the pizza party with a tie between the Pythons and the Timberwolves patrols for dessert. The night was still young and just in time for a Campfire Program. The MC or Master of Ceremonies for the program was Daniel W. from the Wolverines patrol. The skits and songs seemed to really raise spirits for the Scouts, especially the jokes that followed. Eventually, after a long day, the Scouts crashed on their pads and cots. What a day!
On the last day, everyone woke up and started breaking camp. That includes a Police Line, sweeping the area for trash, and taking down tents and lanterns. The final thing that we did before we headed home was a Closing Prayer. I would love to go on that adventure again!
